AEW has unveiled the official poster for the AEW Women’s World Championship match between Mercedes Moné and Thekla at WrestleDream. It will be the first meeting between Moné and Thekla, and it is the first match confirmed so far for the company’s next pay-per-view.
Thekla earned the title shot last night at All Out in Chicago, where she defeated Willow Nightingale in a match to determine Moné’s next challenger.
Julia Hart and Skye Blue interfered in the match on Thekla’s behalf. Nightingale had a big opening to win, but her injured hand kept her from hitting the Doctor Bomb. Thekla took advantage, targeted Nightingale’s hand and picked up the win.
Moné won the AEW Women’s World Championship by defeating Nightingale at All In: London on August 30. She suffered a broken nose in that match, however, and was not cleared to compete at All Out.
AEW had previously said that Moné would be ready to return at WrestleDream.
Thekla is looking to win the championship back. Her reign ran from February to July this year and ended with a loss to Nightingale at Redemption.
WrestleDream is set for Saturday, October 17, at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
