Mercedes Moné was originally scheduled to wrestle at AEW All Out on Saturday, September 26, but the injury she suffered at All In forced AEW to change its plans for the pay-per-view.
Speaking on Thursday’s All Out media call, Tony Khan confirmed that the absence of the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion led to major changes to the card.
Khan said, “Yeah. A lot. Absolutely.” On Moné’s return, he added, “I think she’ll be back next month and I’m almost certain she’ll be back next month. That’s the plan.”
Moné suffered a broken nose early in her match against Willow Nightingale at All In: London on August 30. The injury required stitches after the match, but Moné wrestled through it and defeated Nightingale to win the AEW Women’s World Championship for the first time.
Moné has continued to appear on AEW television since then, but she has not been involved in any physical altercations. On September 16, AEW announced that she had not yet been medically cleared to compete at All Out.
As a result, Nightingale will face Thekla on Saturday. The winner will receive a shot at Moné’s title at WrestleDream, which is scheduled for October 17 at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
All Out will take place at NOW Arena in the Chicago area.
AEW therefore expects Moné to be cleared to wrestle again in October, in time to defend her title at WrestleDream.
