Mercedes Moné was back in an AEW ring before she had fully recovered from her nose injury, but the decision to compete on A Tribute to PAC was reportedly her own.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Moné personally insisted on wrestling on Wednesday’s special edition of Dynamite in Pittsburgh, even though her nose was still broken.
Moné suffered the injury early in her match against Willow Nightingale at All In: London on August 30. After winning the AEW Women’s World Championship, she needed stitches in her nose. The injury later kept her out of All Out, with Tony Khan confirming that doctors had not cleared her to wrestle on the pay-per-view.

On A Tribute to PAC, Moné teamed with Britt Baker and Persephone to face Marina Shafir, Thunder Rosa and Hyan. During the match, Shafir hit a facebreaker directly on Moné’s injured nose, along with a German suplex as a tribute to PAC. Shafir picked up the win by making Baker tap out to the Brutalizer, a move PAC also used.
Moné and PAC also had a public connection during their time in WWE. In 2017, when they were still Sasha Banks and Neville, the two teamed up as Team NASHA in an UpUpDownDown Rocket League tournament.
Moné’s next announced match is an AEW Women’s World Championship defense against Thekla at WrestleDream on October 17.
