According to Fightful Select, the AEW World Championship match between Kenny Omega and MJF had been planned for at least three months for Redemption, AEW’s next pay-per-view.

“The plan for Kenny Omega vs. MJF for the AEW World Championship has been in effect for well over three months at the very least. It was also heard that the long-term plan was for AEW Redemption.”

Redemption is scheduled for July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

As is now known, however, AEW decided to move the match up. On this week’s AEW Dynamite, it was confirmed that MJF will defend the title against Omega at Beach Break, next Wednesday’s special episode in Clearwater, Florida.

The stipulation also stands out: if Omega does not defeat MJF, he will never be able to challenge for the AEW World Championship again. The decision came after MJF retained the title against Mark Briscoe and was confronted by Omega later on the same show.

This will be the third AEW World Championship match between the two. MJF won the first two, including the main event of Dynasty 2026 in April, when he retained the title after using the Dynamite Diamond Ring and finishing Omega with a Heat Seeker.

The change could alter the road to All In at Wembley Stadium. If Omega wins, he could head into the major London event as world champion, completely changing the idea of AEW running MJF vs. Will Ospreay.
