Backstage Update on WWE’s Future Plans for Penta

According to WrestleVotes Radio, several people in WWE believe Penta deserves to keep his spot at the top of the card following his World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns.

The report adds that a rematch between Reigns and Penta isn’t in the plans right now, but there’s a feeling WWE could revisit the matchup down the road — possibly even as the main event of a major show.

Reigns and Penta squared off on Monday’s Raw at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Reigns won after connecting with a midair Superman Punch and finishing Penta with a Spear to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Penta earned the title shot by winning the World Heavyweight Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. He beat Rey Fenix with a Mexican Destroyer in the final on August 31 and came face to face with Reigns after the match.

Even before the tournament wrapped up, the expectation internally was that Penta would be the one to face Reigns in Mexico. WrestleVotes reported in August that this was the backstage sentiment in WWE, given his historic reign as Intercontinental Champion.

For now, Reigns already has his next title defense lined up. WWE confirmed he’ll face LA Knight at Money in the Bank on October 10 in New Orleans.
