Add as a preferred source on Google Chad Gable said a backstage speech from The Undertaker was the turning point in his program with Ludwig Kaiser over the El Grande Americano gimmick.
Gable came back from an injury layoff as the “original” El Grande Americano, accusing Kaiser of stealing the mask while he was on the shelf. The angle was AAA’s top program down the stretch, and The Undertaker, who oversees AAA creative, was following it closely.
On Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Gable said he got frustrated early on because he wasn’t giving The Undertaker what he wanted.
“One day, he gave us a speech backstage. He lit a fire under me. He basically said, ‘What would you do to this guy if he stole something from you? He stole your lifeline here and is claiming it as his own.’ That’s when it really clicked for me.”
Gable said the speech got him back into amateur mode against Kaiser, and that it was the first time he fully lost himself in a match and got to the level of intensity The Undertaker was looking for.
Kaiser beat Gable in a Mask vs. Mask match to blow off the feud on 5/30 at AAA Noche de Los Grandes.
