Chad Gable will wrestle his first singles match on a WWE SummerSlam main card this weekend. Gable challenges Penta for the Intercontinental Title on Sunday, 8/2, on night two of SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

His only previous main card appearance at the show came in 2023, when he was one of 25 men in the Slim Jim Battle Royal that LA Knight won.

Gable’s SummerSlam debut came on the 2016 Kickoff, where he and Jason Jordan, then working as American Alpha, teamed with The Usos and The Hype Bros to beat Breezango, The Ascension and The Vaudevillains in a 12-man tag. That leaves a 10-year gap between his first SummerSlam match and his first singles match on the main show.

Gable earned the shot on the 7/13 RAW, coming in late in a seven-man Gauntlet Match and going through Rusev and Ethan Page to become No. 1 contender.

The match also closes a loop. Penta beat Gable in his WWE debut on the 1/13/2025 RAW, the loss that sent Gable down his lucha libre rabbit hole and eventually produced El Grande Americano. Gable dropped the mask for good in May, losing Mask vs. Mask to Ludwig Kaiser’s Americano at AAA Noche de los Grandes in Monterrey.

Beyond the SummerSlam milestone, a win would give Gable his first WWE singles title under his own name — his Speed Title reign in 2025 came as Americano — in the city he’s billed from.
