Speaking on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Gable said The Undertaker and Jeremy Borash helped him cut loose and find a new version of himself.
“That entire experience was the most freeing thing I’ve ever done in my career. Undertaker helped me really cut loose down there. Jeremy Borash helped me cut loose and find myself.
Just embracing the Mexican culture, the Mexican people, the spirit down there of their fans, and just the lucha libre, the crowd, the audience and the whole aura, it set me free, man. Now you’re getting the best version of Chad Gable because of that experience.”
In a recent sit-down with Cody Rhodes, Gable had already said The Undertaker pulled something out of him that others had spent years trying to get to. It clicked ahead of a match with El Grande Americano, when the WWE Hall of Famer told Gable to work his opponent like a guy who had stolen something important from his life.
The run ended at Noche de Los Grandes on May 30, when Gable dropped a Mask vs. Mask Match to the Americano character now played by Ludwig Kaiser. Gable unmasked and got a big reaction from the Arena Monterrey crowd, and said he’d be back in AAA.
Now Gable gets a shot at his first main roster singles title under his own name. He challenges Penta for the WWE Intercontinental Championship this Sunday on night two of SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
