Chelsea Green Reveals She Pitched WWE on Historic Change

Chelsea Green revealed she pitched WWE creative on expanding the options available to Royal Rumble winners. Her proposal would have allowed winners to challenge for the United States Championship or the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania, rather than being restricted solely to world titles.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, the reigning Interim WWE Women’s Champion detailed the pitch, explaining that her goal was to raise the profile of the Women’s United States Championship:

“I so badly wanted to make the U.S. title something special. I don’t know that I was able to do that in my two reigns, but I think had I been able to have that feud with Nikki and shave my head, I think it would have cemented the U.S. title as something that wasn’t underneath this title, and that’s what I was trying to do. I really wanted people to enter the Rumble, and when they win, possibly challenge the U.S. title holder, not just the big daddy of it all. Why can’t the IC and the U.S. title be a part of that conversation? So I was just really trying to push for that. I was trying to push to elevate that title. I was trying to push to have people care about it, to not have it be second best and all that. I wasn’t able to do it, and now it’s like this doesn’t need that. This already has so much on the line. Every person that goes for that title, they’re already trying to be the best.”

The concept surfaced while Green was discussing another creative pitch she brought to the company: facing Nikki Bella in a Hair vs. Hair Match across WrestleMania 41 and WrestleMania 42, aiming to use that high-profile program to bolster the title’s standing.

She became the inaugural Women’s United States Champion on December 14, 2024, and captured the belt a second time in November 2025. Jacy Jayne currently holds the championship.

The 2027 Royal Rumble is scheduled for February at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
