CM Punk made a special appearance at Saturday’s WWE NXT live event in Petersburg, Virginia, on August 15, but the night didn’t end with the match.
Grayson Waller showed up backstage to confront the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Punk teamed with NXT Tag Team Champions Myles Borne and Tavion Heights to defeat the Vanity Project (Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor, and Ricky Smokes).
After the match, Waller approached Punk and made it clear he didn’t appreciate the champion showing up on what he considers his turf.
“Next time you come to my house, you call me and ask permission.”
Punk asked if Waller was serious, and the Australian stood his ground. Waller said he plans to win the NXT Championship first and then come for Punk’s title, capping off the exchange by telling the champion he’s not a fan.
“I’m not a fan of you.”
Steve Corino stepped in to separate the two before things turned physical. Corino is currently a coach at the WWE Performance Center.
Waller returned to NXT on July 28 and immediately inserted himself into the NXT Championship picture. On August 11, his match against Cruz Montana to determine Tony D’Angelo’s challenger ended in a no-contest when Zilla Fatu debuted by attacking both men.
