Darby Allin is still soaking in his AEW World Championship win, but one specific detail made the moment even bigger for him: the presence of Sting.
Allin defeated MJF on Dynamite: Spring BreakThru on April 15 in Everett, Washington, capturing the AEW World Title for the first time in his career. Before the match, Sting appeared backstage to advise him, and after the victory, he returned to the ring to celebrate alongside his former partner.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, highlighted by the Wrestling Observer, Allin said having Sting there meant much more than just a special appearance. According to him, the Hall of Famer represents the ideal example of someone who reached the top of pro wrestling without being consumed by ego.
“He’s very down to earth. Having him there was incredible, because he got to see that I learned from him.”
Sting also commented on their relationship and compared the dynamic to the impact Ric Flair had on his own career, noting that he saw something special in Darby from the very beginning.
Allin’s victory was highly unusual. He defeated MJF in just over two minutes after hitting four straight Coffin Drops followed by the decisive pinfall.
Since then, the new champion has already defended the title against Tommaso Ciampa and will put it on the line again on tonight’s Dynamite in Fairfax, Virginia, against Brody King.
