Add as a preferred source on Google Kevin Knight has been receiving a strong vote of confidence backstage in AEW, amid his first reign as TNT Champion.
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Tony Khan stated that “The Jet” has all the attributes needed to become the company’s world champion in the future. The statement was published by Fightful.
“He is one of the best young wrestlers in the world. One of the best wrestlers in the world right now. Someone we truly believe in. Kevin Knight has everything, in my opinion, to be a great World Champion. He’s already proven it as a multiple-time World Trios Champion and now as TNT Champion. He’s a great wrestler.”
The praise comes on the same day Knight is set to make one of his biggest defenses yet. On this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, he will put the TNT Championship on the line against MJF, opening the broadcast live from the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.
The rivalry between the two intensified last week, when MJF shifted his focus from just the AEW World Championship and began taunting Knight over the company’s secondary title. The two had previously faced off on March 4, when MJF was still world champion and came out on top.
Knight won the TNT Championship at Dynasty after winning a Casino Gauntlet Match, and has already successfully defended it against Claudio Castagnoli. Before that, he was also a two-time AEW World Trios Champion, alongside Mike Bailey, Hangman Page, and later, Místico.
