In November 2020, Drew McIntyre, at the time in a rivalry with Randy Orton over the WWE Championship, had quite a peculiar accessory introduced to his character, the Claymore sword.

At the time, McIntyre was still playing the character of the Scottish Warrior. In other words, Vince McMahon himself had the idea of giving him an accessory that would do justice to his Scottish roots.

Despite being eye-catching, the sword was always used exclusively in his entrances to the ring, never becoming a weapon that could be used.

However, in a recent interview given to Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre said that he would like to have used the Claymore as a weapon in WWE.

“I had that sword for years, and everyone was like, is Drew ever going to use the sword? I stuck it in the ring, and I stuck it in the table, Pearce’s table. … I also pitched to the big man himself. I was like, ‘Hey, you know Saving Private Ryan?’ Vince [McMahon] had never seen Saving Private Ryan. … Didn’t know what I was talking about.

I was like, in Saving Private Ryan, they use actors, like amputees, etc. They lop off the limbs they’re actually missing. Very realistic. I think at Mania or something, we should have a fight sequence where we end up backstage, then we hit the pre-tape where I swing the sword at somebody. Whoosh, arm comes off. Finally, I use the sword, pay it off.

It’s bothering me. I’m a stickler for details. That’s why I use social media the way I use it to tie stories together if I don’t think they’re tied together enough, and I’m a stickler for details. I’ve had the sword for so long. I have to stab someone.”
