Gunther may be closing in on another major target for his WWE retirement list, and the name at the top is Sheamus.

During a recent appearance on Main Event Club, The Ring General was asked to rank five names he would like to retire. Sheamus ended up in the No. 1 spot, followed by Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio and CM Punk.

Gunther explained that facing Lesnar would have major publicity value, but made it clear that Sheamus is a different situation because of their history on the main roster.

“The thing with Brock is for publicity and is perfect. Sheamus, it’s a personal matter. I want to retire him. Subjectively, they are all good choices. On the main roster, Sheamus was my first big opponent, and he beat me up a lot. He made me earn it. I hope I can kick his ass on the way out.”

It is worth remembering that Gunther has been presented as a kind of “Career Killer” after ending the careers of Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles in recent months.

Sheamus, meanwhile, is currently out of action with an injury, with no official date set for his return to WWE programming.

Gunther will face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy on Sunday, May 31.
