Gunther once again made it clear that he does not see himself as a WWE character built around catchphrases.

Speaking in a recent interview with Rompipallone, The Ring General called himself “the man without phrases” and explained why he has never chased popular catchphrases or easy-to-market nicknames.

“I’m the man without phrases I think. There’s a reason why I don’t have any catchphrases or something like that, because I leave that to people like Cody Rhodes who can give themselves all kinds of cool names, cool sounding names that’s easy for the marketing department to use and put on t-shirts.

“That’s not me, I’m not interested in that part. I’m interested in what happens in the ring, that’s my number one.”

The comments come during the final stretch of the rivalry between Gunther and Rhodes. The two are set to face each other at WWE Clash in Italy on May 31 at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line.

The rivalry started gaining momentum when Gunther attacked Rhodes on the May 1 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The Austrian later refused to sign the contract on the champion’s terms, defeated Royce Keys in a match to determine the challenger, and finally earned his title opportunity.

On the latest SmackDown, Gunther attacked Rhodes again after the champion’s win over Sami Zayn, ending the show with the title held above his head.
