Sting’s son Steven Borden became the focus of serious concern at AEW All Out on Saturday in Chicago after taking a hard fall during a tag team match.
Borden and Darby Allin faced Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight with a future shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the line. In the closing moments of the match, Borden and Knight leaped from the top turnbuckles in opposite corners and collided in midair, with Borden hitting the back of his head on the mat.
Jeff Jarrett addressed the incident on a recent episode of the My World podcast. He praised how AEW handled the situation and pointed in particular to how far professional wrestling has come in dealing with real injuries.
“You’re right, Conrad. S*** happens, things happen. Uh, unfortunately, um, it did happen,” Jarrett said. He then pointed to “Bryce, Doc Sampson, the whole community, the truck, the way it was shot.” Without getting into what he described as dark things, Jarrett reflected on “how the industry has progressed on how we deal with sudden, uh, in-ring injuries.”
Jarrett also spoke about the mood backstage. “I was backstage when they wheeled him by on the ambulance, and it’s an eerie feeling backstage,” he said, describing “that kind of feeling when you have someone strapped down on a gurney.”
“You’re never fully prepared for that,” Jarrett added. “But man, uh, that is a real reality check of the industry we’re in.”
Later in the broadcast, Tony Schiavone confirmed that Borden was conscious and responding normally at the hospital. Tony Khan said after the pay-per-view that Borden had undergone a CT scan and that all of his tests had come back good.
As of the latest public update, no further details have been released about Borden’s return to the ring. He made his official in-ring debut on AEW television on September 9, just over two weeks before All Out.
