Jey Uso advanced in the King of the Ring tournament, but the reaction from WWE fans on social media was far from positive.
On the June 12 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Jey defeated LA Knight, Finn Bálor, and Royce Keys in a Fatal 4-Way Match to earn a spot in the semifinals.
The backlash became clear just a few hours later. By Saturday morning, WWE’s official YouTube video had around 26,000 dislikes compared to only 8,000 likes.
The frustration largely comes from the fact that Knight, Bálor, and Keys are seen by some fans as more interesting options right now. Cageside Seats also noted that many online fans are not buying another major singles push for Jey, especially with the possibility of another path tied to The Bloodline.
The finish also added to the criticism. Solo Sikoa appeared and tried to interfere in the outcome, but the chaos ended up benefiting Jey, who won after hitting an Uso Splash on LA Knight.
With the win, Jey Uso will face Je’Von Evans in the King of the Ring semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Oba Femi will face Dominik Mysterio, with the winners advancing to the tournament final.
It remains to be seen whether WWE will ignore the negative reaction or whether it could influence the next steps in the tournament. For now, Jey is still alive in the field and could still earn a world title opportunity at SummerSlam.
