Dean Ambrose wrestled more than 200 matches in a single year in 2016, a mark no other WWE wrestler has reached in the decade since.
According to Cagematch, Ambrose — now known as Jon Moxley — worked 204 matches that year, finishing with a record of 133 wins, 67 losses, and four draws. He had already cleared the 200-match threshold in 2015, when he competed 218 times.
No one in WWE has matched that total since. In 2017, AJ Styles finished the year with 181 matches, and the yearly leaders that followed stayed below 200. In 2024, for example, Cody Rhodes finished with 101 recorded matches.
Ambrose’s packed 2016 schedule coincided with one of the most important years of his WWE career.
At Money in the Bank on June 19, he won the Ladder Match and cashed in on Seth Rollins that same night, capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.
Just over a month later, SmackDown selected Ambrose in the first round of the WWE Draft. He arrived on the new brand as WWE Champion. AJ Styles, John Cena, and Randy Orton were also drafted to the blue brand.
The chances of anyone matching that workload have only shrunk since then. WWE has significantly cut back on house shows in recent years.
