Kiana James’s WWE Absence Remains a Mystery

Kiana James has been one of the more notable absences from WWE programming in recent weeks, particularly after the prominent role she held during the first half of 2026.

James has not appeared on television since the July 24 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, where she lost to Chelsea Green in a qualifier for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match at SummerSlam.

The absence stands out given the position James had earned. At the Royal Rumble, she lasted 27 minutes and 30 seconds. Weeks later, she defeated Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax to secure a spot in the Elimination Chamber, where she eliminated Alexa Bliss.

James also challenged for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Giulia and received a shot at the Women’s United States Championship against Tiffany Stratton. Her partnership with Giulia was one of the central storylines in SmackDown’s women’s division for several months.

The tide began to turn on June 5, when Giulia attacked James following a loss in the Queen of the Ring tournament. The two faced off on the June 26 SmackDown, with Giulia winning. James then lost to her former partner again on WWE Main Event before the match against Green.

To put the shift in perspective, Charlotte Flair named James in May as one of WWE’s rising stars, saying she had “the potential to be a main event player.”

As of now, no new injury has been publicly reported, and no return date has been announced.
