La Catalina wasted no time turning her new AAA championship into a foot in WWE‘s door.
Just two days after winning the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, Catalina made a surprise appearance on Tuesday’s NXT, live from the Performance Center in Orlando. She interrupted Kelani Jordan and stood face to face with the NXT Women’s Champion.
Jordan had been in the ring discussing her title defense against Jaida Parker last week, where she retained the NXT Women’s Championship but was attacked by Wren Sinclair after the match. With Wren now suspended, the champion said she didn’t see a single challenger willing to step up.
That was when La Catalina walked out.
The new Reina de Reinas Champion pointed out that she had just won a title of her own. Catalina said she came to NXT to raise the bar in the women’s division, putting herself in the conversation with Jordan.
Zaria came out next. The NXT Women’s North American Champion dismissed the idea that Jordan or Catalina could pull off what she did in unifying championships and demanded more respect. Catalina fired back by bringing up Thea Hail, who made Zaria tap to a Kimura on the September 8 episode of NXT.
That brought Hail to the ring as well. She said she’s already proven she can go with anyone in the division. All she needs is one more win over Zaria, this time in a sanctioned match, to become a two-time NXT Women’s North American Champion.
Zaria cut things short by decking Hail before the segment could go any further, and Jordan and Catalina started trading blows of their own. When the dust settled, Catalina and Hail stood tall after hitting hip attacks on both Jordan and Zaria, who bailed from the ring.
Catalina won the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship by defeating Flammer on Night 2 of Triplemanía 34 on September 13 in Mexico City.
