Lyra Valkyria showed up with a completely different look on Monday’s “Raw” from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas — a version of her character that had almost nothing in common with the one fans knew before.
Gone was most of the color. Gone, too, were the “Bird Lady” touches that defined her run as a babyface. The darker aesthetic lines up with her recent heel turn, and it showed the moment she stepped out.
Bayley had called her to the ring demanding an apology for the attack. Valkyria wasn’t having it. She fired back that Bayley was the one who owed her an apology — for holding her back for over a year.
The former NXT Women’s Champion didn’t stop there. She accused Bayley of turning her own issues into a personality and of being far too hung up on friendships and old failures.
Then she went further. Bayley, she said, isn’t a real leader of the locker room, doesn’t belong on WWE posters, and has always been the worst of the Four Horsewomen.
Bayley wasn’t going to let that sit. She ran down her own résumé in response and made clear she doesn’t see anything special about Valkyria. She closed by promising to beat her at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where — according to Bayley — Adam Pearce has already lined up their match.
The rivalry traces back to the June 22 episode of “Raw,” when Valkyria turned on Bayley right after the two of them came up short against Paige and Brie Bella in a match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Saturday Night’s Main Event goes down this Saturday, July 18, at Madison Square Garden — the special’s first time back at the historic New York City arena since 2007.
