Add as a preferred source on Google Matt Sydal is officially back in action for AEW. The high-flyer worked his first match for the company since May 2024 on Saturday’s episode of Collision.
Now the newest member of SkyFlight, Sydal teamed with Dante Martin and Scorpio Sky to take on The Lethal Twist, the trio of Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson.
Sydal opened the match against Lethal and showed his signature high-flying style is still intact, hitting a hurricanrana and a dropkick before tagging in Scorpio Sky.
The comeback ended in defeat, though. Ricochet left the commentary table and climbed onto the apron to distract the referee. Johnson took advantage of the opening to knock Dante Martin off the top rope, and after a combination move with Christian, sealed the pinfall.

Sydal’s last AEW match had come on May 22, 2024, when he lost to Konosuke Takeshita in under two minutes on Dynamite. A few weeks later, he underwent major surgery on his right foot, in which three bones had to be broken and fused back together, along with hardware inserted to reposition his toes.
His time away from AEW wasn’t a complete absence from the ring. Sydal returned to the independent circuit in July 2025 and made other appearances before coming back to Tony Khan’s programming.
Sydal resurfaced on TV on June 20 and was later announced as a member of SkyFlight. Since then, he’s stepped directly into a feud with Ricochet and The Demand.
Sydal and Ricochet were tag team partners from 2015 to 2017, winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship together twice, along with the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship in NJPW.
