MVP, now 52, has openly acknowledged that he’s winding down his long pro wrestling career and has no interest in occupying a spot he doesn’t believe he can perform at the highest level anymore.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Marking Out Podcast, the Hurt Syndicate member revealed he expects to have his final match at some point in 2027. He went even further, stating he would turn down a potential offer from Tony Khan to hold the AEW World Championship before calling it a career.
“If Tony [Khan] said, ‘Hey, as a gift to you for your career, on the way out the door, I’d like to give you an AEW Championship title run,’ I would say no because I can’t.
At this point in my career, I don’t feel that I could put on the level of match I would want to be able to put on with the young talent that I’d be working with to do justice to the title.
Physically, I can’t go like that anymore, and I don’t want to work that hard. I’m spoiled now, man. My friends beat people up and I talk about it.”
MVP hasn’t competed since October 22, 2025, when the Hurt Syndicate lost to Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs in an AEW World Trios Championship match. That said, he made it clear he could still work trios bouts alongside Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.
MVP recently re-signed with AEW, as did Benjamin, ensuring the Hurt Syndicate will remain with the company going forward.
The comments also line up with the faction’s current direction. In June, MVP said the Hurt Syndicate wasn’t interested in titles, only in getting paid to attack people.
