Add as a preferred source on Google WWE reportedly altered its plans for SummerSlam 2026, which took place last Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The plan internally was for IYO SKY to defeat Liv Morgan and win the Women’s World Championship. However, the company changed the result and kept the title on Liv Morgan.
Self Made Pro said on a recent edition of Self Made Session that SKY’s victory had been expected backstage for more than a month. The plan also would have led to a non-title program between Morgan and Stephanie Vaquer in the fall.
“IYO SKY was expected internally to win this match over a month ago. And when I spoke to people in the company, the belief had been that the working plan for some time was going to be one where they do a Stephanie Vaquer–Liv Morgan non-title program in the fall.”
The reason for the change remains unknown.
In the closing moments of the match, Morgan hit Oblivion and pinned SKY to open SummerSlam Night One. The victory extended the title reign she began on April 18, 2026, when Morgan defeated Vaquer at WrestleMania 42.
SKY had won the match by beating the champion in the Queen of the Ring final on June 27, 2026. As the Queen of the Ring winner, SKY earned a title opportunity and chose to cash it in against Morgan at SummerSlam.
