WWE Crown Jewel’s move to a new venue was announced amid concerns over the recent attacks on Riyadh, but there is reportedly a different reason behind it.
That’s what people in Saudi Arabia have told Wrestling Noticias.
Those sources said poor ticket sales, rather than the attacks on Riyadh over the last few weeks, led the organizers to move the show to a different venue.
Riyadh Season officially announced the change on Wednesday. All ticket buyers will receive a full refund, and tickets will go back on sale within 48 hours. The statement didn’t name the new venue.
Crown Jewel was originally scheduled for Riyadh Season Stadium at KAFD, a temporary stadium that also hosted the Royal Rumble in January. Setup at the stadium was already underway when the move was announced.
On Monday, Turki Alalshikh promoted ticket sales again with a post about the Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn match.
Fightful Select reported that staff at WWE headquarters only found out about the decision to change venues when Riyadh Season posted its statement on social media.
Crown Jewel is still set for November 7.
