Rey Fenix and Penta are set to collide in a WWE ring for the first time next week on RAW, meeting in the finals of the tournament to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship.
Both brothers punched their tickets to the final on this week’s RAW. Fenix beat Dragon Lee with a Mexican Muscle Buster, while Penta put away La Parka with a Mexican Destroyer.
Speaking with Busted Open, Rey Fenix said the result is secondary. Getting to face his brother on WWE television is the realization of a dream they’ve shared since childhood.
“If my brother wins the match, I will feel proud about my job. I think every time I step in the ring, I always try to do my best. And of course, this is another match I have to put the double energy, my soul, my body, because this is not only a match. This is a dream. This is a dream come true by two brothers that almost 22 years ago, we took together and we know we have that dream. We used to play wrestling in my parents’ beds. We break doors, we break glasses, we break mirrors.
One day, got the time to thinking about, ‘Hey, what about if we can wrestle at WWE? Can you imagine a one-on-one or, dream matches we talk about?’ And now it’s here. On Monday Night RAW next week, and of course, if my brother won the match, I would be happy for him and I would be happy for me because I know I did my best. Every time I step in the ring, I always do my best because I love my job. I love what I do.
This is a big deal for me and for my brother, so that’s why I know it’s gonna be a great match. I’ll always say that I am the best opponent of my brother, and my brother is my best opponent.”
While next week marks their first one-on-one encounter in WWE, Penta and Rey Fenix are far from strangers as opponents. Their most recent singles match took place on the November 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite, where Penta defeated Fenix.
Before they go head-to-head, the brothers will be teaming together. At AAA Ola de Calor this Sunday, Penta, Rey Fenix, and Dragon Lee will take on Daga, Angel, and Berto of Perros del Mal.
