Add as a preferred source on Google Rey Mysterio is the new General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA, taking on an authority role as the promotion enters a new chapter alongside WWE.
The announcement was made on Saturday, May 23, during AAA on FOX from Mexico City. In the United States, the show was available on YouTube and Facebook beginning at 10 PM ET.
Marisela Peña opened the segment surrounded by AAA legends and current talent. Dorian Roldán was also in the ring and clearly believed he would be chosen for the role.
Instead, Peña announced Mysterio as the new General Manager. Before the reveal, fans had already noticed Rey was missing from English commentary, with Savio Vega filling in alongside Corey Graves and JBL.

Mysterio said AAA gave him an opportunity early in his career and that he is now returning to help the promotion grow in this new era. The reaction, however, was not positive for everyone.
Dominik Mysterio, the current AAA Mega Champion, was shown watching the announcement backstage and was visibly upset. Dorian also looked bothered after losing the spot to the WWE Hall of Famer.
AAA had been building toward the reveal for several weeks, with names like Chessman, Texano Jr., Cibernético and JBL emerging as possible candidates for the position.
