Sheamus is on his way out of WWE after nearly two decades with the company, but he isn’t expected to have much trouble finding new challenges in professional wrestling.
During a recent Select Answers segment on Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp fielded a question about which country outside the United States would give the Celtic Warrior the best reception. In Sapp’s view, Japan would be the ideal landing spot, given the Irishman’s physical, aggressive style.
CMLL is viewed as a possibility too, largely because of the chance of a reunion with Claudio Castagnoli, but Sapp believes Sheamus is a better fit for the tougher style of matches found in Japan.
One name Sapp floated as a potential opponent was Tomohiro Ishii. He thinks the two will cross paths at some point, pointing to their size difference and fairly similar styles as the ingredients for a great match.
In Mexico, Sheamus could reunite with Castagnoli to reform The Bar. The Swiss standout holds a dual contract with AEW and CMLL — he’s the first wrestler under contract with Tony Khan’s company to also officially sign with the Mexican promotion.
Together, the pair won the RAW Tag Team Championship four times and also held the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once during their time in WWE.
Sheamus turned down a restructured contract offer from WWE, though he was still officially under contract with the company when news of his departure broke.
