Add as a preferred source on Google The Rock was once again referenced indirectly on WWE programming, this time during the SummerSlam Kickoff held this Sunday, July 19, at Fanatics Fest NYC.
During an interview with Michael Cole, Rollins was greeted with “OTC” chants for World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns.
Rollins fired back that even without the crowd giving him credit, he was still “The People’s Champion.” Moments later, the Visionary worked in a twist on the famous “If You Smell What The Rock Is Cooking” line, without ever saying The Rock’s name.
The word choice caught attention right away. “The People’s Champion” nickname and the catchphrase Rollins used are two of the biggest trademarks of The Rock’s career.

Notably, The Rock has recent history with both men in the World Heavyweight Championship match. At WrestleMania XL in 2024, he teamed with Reigns and beat Rollins and Cody Rhodes on night one of the event.
The Rollins-Reigns rivalry has picked up new chapters in recent days as well. On the July 13 episode of RAW, the two signed the contract for their SummerSlam match, with Rollins ending the segment by attacking the champion. The following night, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Reigns came out on top in another wild scene involving Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton.
There’s no confirmation, though, that The Rock will be at SummerSlam. The updated card has Reigns against Rollins, but it doesn’t include an appearance from the Final Boss.
For now, the moment should be treated as nothing more than a joke on Rollins’ part, or a possible tease from WWE.
