Steve Maclin said Darby Allin tops the list of wrestlers he would like to face if he ends up in AEW. A free agent since leaving TNA in June, Maclin has publicly acknowledged his interest in working for AEW.
In an interview with Muscle Man Malcolm of TheSportster, Maclin said he closely followed Allin’s recent AEW World Championship reign and praised the pace Allin kept as champion.
“Oh, 1000%. There’s so many people on that roster, my #1 is Darby Allin. I watched him each week, even when he had his world title run recently. He was just a workhorse and he was giving his body up. I just really enjoyed what he was doing with that body of work at the time, that’s somebody I’d love to get in the ring with.”
Allin won the AEW World Championship by defeating MJF on the April 15 Spring BreakThru edition of Dynamite. He held the title until May 24, when he lost the rematch to MJF at Double or Nothing. Allin is currently the TNT Champion.
Maclin also brought up Josh Alexander, one of his best friends, and pointed to the Don Callis Family as another possibility.
“Then, you have Josh Alexander over there who is one of my best friends. There’s a lot of opportunity with the Don Callis Family, Jake Something, you have Kyle Fletcher, the list goes on of the entire family.”
According to Fightful Select, Maclin and AEW had preliminary contact in July, but no deal has been confirmed.
