The Rock, one of the biggest names in WWE history and a current member of TKO’s board of directors, revealed that he recently went through a major scare over the possibility of having testicular cancer.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Dwayne Johnson said he found a painful lump in his left testicle while taking a shower on a Friday. The issue got worse over the weekend, leading him to contact his doctor.
According to Johnson, the initial evaluation suggested it could be epididymitis, an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube located at the back of the testicle. However, his doctor also warned him that cancer could not be ruled out without an ultrasound.
What stood out is that The Rock did not immediately tell his wife, Lauren Hashian, whom he has been married to for seven years.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren. I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was actually something I should be worried about.”

Although he didn’t know it at the time, Johnson ended up being just fine.

Johnson said that, despite the scare, he is doing well today. At the time, though, the uncertainty weighed heavily on him.
“By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that at the time, and it hurt a lot.”
Before he was able to get the exam done, The Rock still had to fulfill Jumanji-related press commitments, sitting alongside Kevin Hart and Jack Black while privately dealing with the possibility of a serious diagnosis.
“So I had to live with that for 24 hours, not knowing, and I still had to be switched on all day, joking around, giving speeches.”
The later exam ruled out cancer, confirming that Johnson was dealing with a non-malignant issue.
Although he remains away from the WWE ring, The Rock is still directly tied to the company, especially after joining TKO’s board of directors in January 2024. TKO is the parent company of WWE and UFC.
