The Rock ranks his Final Boss persona above every great heel in wrestling history, calling it the most gratifying reinvention of his entire career.

The comment comes from “Heel Turn,” the fourth episode of the first season of WWE: Unreal, which Netflix released on July 29, 2025. In other words, even though the quote has resurfaced on social media, it isn’t a new comment.

In the documentary, Rock said:

“The Final Boss. The greatest heel professional wrestling has seen. Becoming this new version has been the most gratifying decision that I’ve ever made.”

Rock also described the character as an insurmountable antagonist, with no limit on what he can do or say in WWE.

The Final Boss took shape in 2024, amid strong fan backlash against the possibility of Rock replacing Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. A few weeks before that, Rock had joined TKO’s board of directors — a corporate position that became part of the storyline itself.

On night one of WrestleMania XL, Rock and Reigns defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins, with Final Boss picking up the pin on Rhodes. The following night, The Undertaker neutralized Rock during the match in which Rhodes finally won the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Rock brought the character back in 2025, when he asked for Cody’s “soul” and orchestrated John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber. Since then, though, he hasn’t appeared on WWE programming again.
