Trick Williams has Baron Corbin back in his crosshairs. On Friday’s SmackDown, the former champion attacked the reigning WWE United States Champion.
Corbin put the title on the line against Carmelo Hayes in Boston and retained after hitting the End of Days. Hayes had been pushing for the shot since last week, when he attacked Corbin backstage following the champion’s win over Trick.
Right after the match, though, Trick appeared alongside rapper Lil Yachty. Yachty cracked Corbin with a kendo stick but had a second swing blocked. Williams capitalized and dropped Corbin with a jumping knee.
The feud dates back to the July 10 SmackDown, when Corbin made his WWE return during a Trick vs. Carmelo Hayes match and laid both men out with the End of Days.
At SummerSlam on August 2, Corbin defeated Trick to capture the United States Championship, nailing Williams with the title belt before delivering the End of Days. Five days later, he beat Trick again on SmackDown, once more using the title behind the referee’s back.
The post-match attack stands out because, after Trick’s second loss, rumors emerged that WWE was planning to pull him from the U.S. title picture and point him toward bigger things.
Friday night’s segment suggests a change of plans, reopening the door for another Trick-Corbin title match, particularly since both of Corbin’s previous wins came under controversial circumstances involving the belt.
