Triple H drew heavy fan backlash after confirming a match between Lil Yachty and Baron Corbin for the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event.
The controversy began after Triple H promoted the bout on social media, billing it as a survival challenge where the rapper must last five minutes in the ring against the reigning United States Champion.
“It’s not about having your first match. It’s about survival. Lil Yachty. Baron Corbin. Sunday Night’s Main Event.”
Fan reaction was overwhelmingly negative. Much of the criticism was aimed directly at Triple H, with fans accusing WWE‘s creative team of prioritizing celebrity involvement over pushing roster talent who they felt deserved the spotlight.
Social media comments questioned the decision to feature Yachty, with fans pointing to names like Carmelo Hayes, Giulia, and Jordynne Grace as talents who should be getting bigger opportunities instead.
“Did a single person on this planet ask for this.”
Another fan took aim directly at Triple H, accusing WWE of wasting valuable TV time on the rapper’s involvement:
“You gotta put the pen down dawg you’ve lost your damn mind.”
The criticism only intensified because the match grew out of the ongoing feud between Trick Williams and Corbin over the United States Championship. After Corbin refused to give Williams another title shot on the August 21 SmackDown, Yachty attacked the champion with a Singapore Cane.
Corbin then offered a deal: Yachty must survive five minutes against him at Sunday Night’s Main Event. If the rapper makes it, Williams earns another United States Championship match. If Corbin finishes him before time expires, Williams loses his shot entirely.
