Triple H wishes WWE fans would go back to directing their anger at the characters on television when a storyline upsets them instead of immediately blaming the creative team.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio on July 29, WWE’s head of creative compared that reaction to the way NFL, NBA, and MLB fans behave. They question coaching decisions but remain emotionally invested in their teams.
“I wish sometimes we could put that passion into the talent now, as opposed to—it’s like when somebody gets heat in our business, it’s, ‘God, why would they write that that way?’ As opposed to, ‘That no-good piece of crap,’ right, did this. I wish people could buy into sometimes. There’s something to saying that innocence of not knowing and, ‘It’s still real to me, damn it.’ But it is what it is. I love it. I love the hate. I love the love. It’s all passion for what we do.”
The comments come at a time when WWE itself is offering fans a closer look at its creative process. The third season of WWE: Unreal premiered July 21 with five 50-minute episodes. The series takes viewers inside the writers’ room, where injuries, last-minute changes, and major decisions reshape the road to WrestleMania 42.
Triple H’s view is not new. On June 24, 2024, he described WWE as a movie or television series about a sport. He returned to the subject on September 13, 2025, saying WWE was closer to Rocky than to real boxing.
On Busted Open Radio, Triple H reiterated that pro wrestling no longer needs to pretend to be a real sport because the wrestlers’ physical effort, the risks they take, and the emotions they feel already give the product legitimacy.
