Giulia’s apparent injury during her match against Blake Monroe on Friday’s WWE SmackDown was scripted, according to Fightful’s Corey Brennan.
Late in the match, Monroe escaped Giulia’s superplex attempt and took out her leg. Giulia went face-first into the turnbuckle and collapsed, allowing Monroe to cover her for the win.
The referee checked on Giulia right after the match and called for help. During the commercial break, WWE’s medical staff helped her away from ringside, sparking concern among fans at Ball Arena in Denver.
Fightful reports, however, that the internal rundown for the show called for both the finish and Giulia being helped to the back. Another segment featuring Giulia and Monroe was also planned but did not air.
WWE later posted that segment on social media. It showed Monroe taunting Giulia over the loss until Giulia caught her off guard with a headbutt, a clear sign that the feud will continue.
Monroe first attacked Giulia on the June 26 episode of SmackDown. Since then, the two have been booked to face each other in August and again in September, but further attacks before the bell kept both matches from getting underway.
