Wendy Choo’s release reportedly caught the WWE Performance Center off guard.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer wrote in a post on Saturday that the decision came as a shock to the Performance Center. Choo was part of Friday’s cuts, which also hit several other developmental names.
“Apparently the whole PC was shocked that Wendy Choo was released,” Alvarez wrote.
Adriana Rizzo, Zena Sterling, Anya Rune, Braxton Cole, Jasper Troy, PJ Vasa, Gary Wilson, Ellen Akesson and Marcus Brown were also among those let go.
Troy spoke with Patricki Chites of Wrestling Noticias about his exit and whether he had noticed WWE treating him any differently in the weeks before the cuts.
Choo had been under contract with WWE since February 2019. In NXT, she played Mei Ying, the leader of Tian Sha, before becoming Wendy Choo.
More recently, she had been wrestling for EVOLVE, where she won the Evolve Women’s Championship in April. Her reign ended with a loss to Nikkita Lyons.
