WWE Announces Major Title Match for This Week’s SmackDown

WWE has announced a major World Tag Team Championship match for the August 14 Friday Night SmackDown at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi will team up for the first time in WWE to challenge reigning champions Bron Breakker and Austin Theory, who will be accompanied by Maxxine Dupri.

Despite being part of the event, the match won’t air on the SmackDown broadcast. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the title bout is set to take place as a dark match after the show goes off the air. SmackDown airs at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on USA Network.

Rhodes and Femi have previously been on opposite sides. At Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, the two squared off in a match that ended in a No Contest after Drew McIntyre attacked Rhodes. Following the interference, Femi and Rhodes teamed up to go after McIntyre.

Breakker and Theory have held the World Tag Team Championship since July 6, when they recaptured the titles from the Street Profits. In that match, Maxxine Dupri delivered a low blow to Angelo Dawkins behind the referee’s back, paving the way for The Vision’s victory.

The announcement also adds fuel to the ongoing feud between Femi and Breakker on Monday Night RAW. Femi is coming off a win over Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam and has clashed with Breakker in recent weeks.
