MFT is back on top of WWE’s tag team division. Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga captured the WWE Tag Team Championship on Friday’s SmackDown in Boston, winning a triple threat over Damian Priest and R-Truth and AAA World Tag Team Champions The War Raiders.
The match was a fast-paced affair, with all three teams getting legitimate chances to walk away with the gold. Priest launched himself off the top rope onto all four opponents, while Erik and Ivar also came close to leaving TD Garden as champions.
Ultimately, R-Truth found himself isolated in the ring against MFT. He went for an Attitude Adjustment on Tama Tonga, but the Samoan escaped. Tama and Talla then connected with the Brother’s Keeper and scored the pin to win the titles.
The title change caps a lengthy feud between the three teams. On 6/19, Priest and Truth successfully defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against Tama and Talla. Weeks later on 7/31, a title match between the champions and the War Raiders ended in a no-contest amid referee confusion, after which Tama, Talla, and Haku hit the ring and destroyed both teams.
Priest and Truth had held the titles since 3/20, when they beat then-MFT members Tama Tonga and JC Mateo. Friday’s result brings the championship back to MFT after nearly five months, this time with a different lineup.
