Add as a preferred source on Google Penta will make one of the most important defenses of his reign as WWE Intercontinental Champion next Monday, June 8, on Monday Night RAW, live from the Accor Arena in Paris, France.
The champion himself confirmed on his official Instagram account that he will put the title on the line against Rey Mysterio, in a match he treated as the most important of his career.
“To face Rey Mysterio for the WWE Intercontinental Championship is what dreams are made of!!! The most meaningful match of my career happens this Monday on RAW, LIVE FROM PARIS!”
WWE had already been building toward the match in recent weeks. On the May 25 episode of RAW, Mysterio defeated Rusev to become the No. 1 contender to the title. The following week in Turin, Adam Pearce spoke with Penta backstage and made it clear that the match against Rey was confirmed, though it still did not have a date.
Penta and Mysterio recently shared the ring at WrestleMania 42 in a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship, which also featured Dragon Lee, Je’Von Evans, Rusev, and JD McDonagh.
In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Penta had already talked about how personal it would be to face Mysterio, calling the WWE Hall of Famer his idol and saying it was his dream match.
Monday’s episode of Monday Night RAW will air live on Netflix in the United States at a special start time of 2 p.m. ET.
