Rey Mysterio would like to face CM Punk again in WWE before his career is over.

The two had one of the best-known feuds of Rey’s SmackDown run.

During a Mattel panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July, Rey was asked about possibly facing Punk one last time. Explaining why he wants to face his former rival again, Rey said:

“Every time I’ve got to share the ring with this man […] So, I would really love to do it again.”

Rey and Punk last met one-on-one on the August 6, 2012, episode of Raw, when Punk defeated Rey in a non-title match.

Their history came up again in September, when Rey revealed in an interview with MuscleManMalcolm that he still has some of Punk’s hair in a plastic bag labeled with the date of the match. He said he learned the tradition from his uncle in Mexico.

Rey and Punk haven’t faced each other in a singles match since 2012, but they have shared the ring again as partners. At Worlds Collide in September, they teamed with El Grande Americano and defeated Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Omos.

Rey’s wish also ties into recent reports about his future with WWE. As previously reported on Thursday, WWE has begun discussing a possible 2027 retirement for Rey, including ideas for his farewell.
