Sami Zayn may have captured the Undisputed WWE Championship earlier than WWE initially had in mind.
According to Cory Hays of False Finish, the company’s original plan was for Zayn to win the world title at WrestleMania 43, which will take place in 2027 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
However, WWE decided to move that crowning up to Night of Champions, which took place this past Saturday, June 27, also in Riyadh. In the main event, Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match.

The finish came when Rhodes went for another Cross Rhodes on Zayn, only to be caught with a roll-up that gave the Canadian the win. Before that, Gunther also came close to leaving with the title, keeping the outcome uncertain until the final seconds.
WrestleMania 43 will be the first edition of the Showcase of the Immortals held outside the United States and Canada.
The question now is whether moving up Zayn’s title win means he is in line for a long reign, or if this will end up being a transitional run at the top of WWE. So far, the company has not given any clear indication of its next steps with him as champion.
