The broadcast situation for WWE x AAA Worlds Collide has taken another turn, with the event just two days away. WWE has yet to officially announce where the show will air or whether it will air at all.
Speaking on a recent episode of Something to Wrestle, JBL said he will not be at Allstate Arena and that WWE does not plan to bring the announcers to Chicago.
“I am not gonna be there. We’re gonna call it, I think post-fact, but I’m not gonna be there. They asked me if I’d come in. I said, ‘Absolutely, I’d be happy to.’ But they’re not bringing the announcers in.”
The WWE Hall of Famer also said the plan he was given a few weeks ago was to record commentary only after the event.
“What they told us initially, and this was a few weeks ago, was that we’ll probably voice it over next week some time. They may have changed that since. I don’t know because they haven’t said anything about it since.”
JBL’s comments add to the uncertainty surrounding the show. Fightful Select initially reported that no plans for a broadcast were listed internally. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer later reported that the show would be taped, and days after that, Andrew Baydala said sources expected it to stream live on YouTube.
Officially, WWE continues to treat Worlds Collide as a live event. The show is set for Saturday, September 26, at Allstate Arena in the Chicago area.
The show will be headlined by a six-man tag team match pitting CM Punk, Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano against Omos, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh. Penta and Rey Fenix are also set to team up again as the Lucha Brothers, and Oba Femi will make a special appearance.
