On tonight’s RAW in Brooklyn, WWE tried at the last minute to make Saturday’s controversial, high-risk Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia feel like more than a standalone show. But WWE clearly has its “eyes” on the future.

John Cena confirmed that the long-awaited John Cena Classic will finally take place on December 14 and revealed a new title that I think is beautiful. Those announcements, along with the feud between The Bloodline and The 946 ramping up, show that the Riyadh show will only be an extra, far from what matters.

Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn did open the show with the best segment of their “feud” so far. But the Helluva Kick at the end was not enough to change the feeling that WWE is really focused on a potential WarGames match between The Bloodline and The 946.

Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes had a good segment as well, with Orton making a strong promise, but that was only after Cena’s announcements. Cena also confirmed that he will be at Survivor Series.

The women’s division was more of the same. Liv Morgan and Chelsea Green continued their feud through another tag team match, with Tiffany Stratton in the background as a threat, though still a weak one. There was nothing to get excited about heading into Saturday’s Women’s Crown Jewel Championship match.

All of that may sound bad, but it’s actually a very good sign. That’s because despite the show still taking place when it obviously shouldn’t, even WWE knows it doesn’t need it outside of the money, which matters to a point too.
