Add as a preferred source on Google Kenny Omega and Kevin Knight will meet for the AEW World Championship in tonight’s main event of Redemption at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Knight arrives at the biggest match of his career as TNT Champion, a member of the Don Callis Family, and riding a big winning streak. Still, a change at the top would be hard to justify.
Here are three reasons a Knight win is all but off the table.
3 – Omega Just Won the Title Back
Omega beat MJF at Dynamite: Beach Break on July 8, ending a long pursuit of the AEW World Championship and starting his second reign. Tonight marks Omega’s first defense. Taking the title off him less than three weeks after he won it would weaken the win over MJF and turn a months-in-the-making return to the top into a mere transitional title change.
Knight could turn in a great performance, come close to winning, and still leave with his stock raised. AEW doesn’t need to put the company’s top title in his hands to confirm that he’s arrived.
2 – Knight Already Has a Title, and Still Has to Prove Himself
Kevin Knight has made 10 defenses of the TNT Championship and has been presented as one of the fastest-rising names of 2026.
That work has already put him in a pay-per-view main event against Kenny Omega. A win, though, would put two championships in the hands of someone still building his standing among AEW’s top names.
Knight himself has said he’d be willing to give up the TNT Championship if he became world champion, ending a notable reign by vacating it. A loss to Omega offers a more logical path: Knight keeps the TNT Championship, gains experience in a high-stakes match, and continues his rise within the Don Callis Family.
1 – Omega vs. Ospreay Is Too Big to Lose
Will Ospreay won the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and locked up an AEW World Championship match at All In on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
That result set Omega and Ospreay on a collision course, with both men treating the match as the show’s true main event. Ospreay also helped Omega beat MJF, creating a direct link between the title win and the match in London. An Omega loss to Knight tonight would significantly undercut All In.
Omega vs. Ospreay brings together history, anticipation and two of the company’s biggest stars on the biggest stage available. Redemption should confirm that path, while Knight can still leave Montreal stronger even in defeat.
