MVP has denied rumors that The Hurt Syndicate has run into backstage problems in AEW by refusing to lose to other talent.

He said the group had plans to drop the AEW World Tag Team Championship to Private Party.

On Saturday, MVP responded on X to claims that he was talking Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin into rejecting the company’s creative decisions. He also denied having issues with members of the creative team and said he believes he has found the source of the rumors.

“Rumor?” MVP said. “Nah man. You are absolutely Wrong!!!! None of this is true. But now I know where this whisper campaign is coming from!”

“So I open up Twitter to see lies being reported about The Hurt Syndicate,” MVP said. “BLATANT LIES!!! Who is the source of these lies?”

MVP also said:

“To the contrary, we wanted to work with younger talent! We wanted to drop the tag titles BACK to Private Party!!! STOP BELIEVING THE BS!”

The discussion started after Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful addressed The Hurt Syndicate’s absence on Wednesday’s episode of The Hump.

Sapp said there have been situations where members of the group didn’t want to put other talent over, though he was unsure why the group has been appearing less on television.

“Listen, I know there’s been a lot of talk about them like not wanting to put people over,” Sapp said. “There’s definitely been some situations where they haven’t wanted to. That has been a thing.”

Sapp did not specify which members reportedly turned down the plans or which opponents were involved.

Fightful Select had already reported similar issues in August 2025. According to that report, MVP turned down pitches for Lashley and Benjamin to lose to FTR and JetSpeed.

MVP’s comments on Saturday line up with that part of the earlier report but contradict the claims that The Hurt Syndicate refused to lose to certain opponents.

Lashley and Benjamin last wrestled for the company at All In: London on August 30, when they teamed with QT Marshall and Big Boom AJ to defeat Shane Taylor Promotions.
