Anthony Bowens has not announced his next move since his AEW contract expired Oct. 1, but he says he knows which path he wants his career to take.
In an interview with Michael Fairman on Monday, Bowens addressed the uncertainty. He explained that he would rather not discuss it publicly to avoid speculation, mainly because of the attention his comments could draw from the wrestling media.
“I just don’t know where things are gonna go. I don’t wanna speculate. I’m taking everything one day at a time.”
Bowens closed his answer by saying that, even with his future up in the air, he already has a preference for his next step.
“I know deep down what I want to do and we’ll see if it works out.”
Behind the scenes, Bowens staying with AEW remains under discussion, according to a Fightful Select update on Sunday. The report adds that people within the company believe he could still open negotiations and sign a new deal.
The update marks a change from September, when this site reported that there were no talks between the two sides about a new contract.
WWE is also a possible destination for Bowens. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported in September that WWE had shown interest in signing him, though there are no negotiations at this point.
Bowens is still listed on AEW’s official roster page, unlike his former Acclaimed partner, Max Caster, who left the company and made his TNA debut at Bound for Glory.
At All In in August, Bowens wrestled his last match for AEW, competing alongside The Opps on the Buy In pre-show.
