Chelsea Green retained the WWE Women’s Championship over Nia Jax on Friday’s SmackDown in Mexico City, her first successful defense. She walked out thinking it was a great match, but the internet didn’t agree.
Speaking on NotSam Wrestling, the champion addressed the criticism she received after the bout.
“I thought it was a banger of a match, but the internet told me otherwise [laughs]. One thing about them, they stay humbling me. For 13 years, I can’t get a big head.”
Matt Cardona, who was also on the show, added, “Nobody tweets about a good flight.”
Green said she prefers to trust the people closest to her, pointing to Jordynne Grace as someone who gives it to her straight.
“When Matt said that, I was like, ‘You are right.’ My friends are also very real with me, like Jordynne Grace, very real, whether I want to hear it or not. She told she liked the match. That’s who I trust. She would tell me (if she didn’t like the match). She would tell me in-depth. The problem is, I always preach that if I’m going to believe the good stuff, I have to believe the bad stuff. I do stand by that, but right now, I better not believe anything.”
“It feels real personal, especially when Mexico City tells you that it was amazing and they are loud the whole time and you come back feeling like, ‘Yes, I just entertained the shit out of them.’ Then, you get a whole different opinion elsewhere. It’s very jarring.”
Green wrestled the match while still recovering from the broken orbital bone she suffered on the August 7 SmackDown, having been cleared to compete on the condition that she continue wearing her protective mask.
This wasn’t Green’s first win over Jax in 2026. On May 29, Tiffany Stratton hit Jax with the Women’s United States Championship behind the referee’s back, allowing Green to pick up the victory.
