Chelsea Green Discusses Working with Matt Cardona on WWE TV

Chelsea Green and husband Matt Cardona shared the ring on the August 14 SmackDown in Boston, Massachusetts, a moment the reigning WWE Women’s Champion considers inevitable.

Cardona’s appearance followed GM Nick Aldis giving Green a 30-day window to obtain medical clearance and defend the title. The champion suffered an orbital bone fracture on the August 7 SmackDown but managed to convince Aldis not to strip her of the championship.

Shortly after, though, Gunther interrupted the segment and got into a confrontation with Green. Cardona came out to defend his wife, attacking Gunther.

Speaking with Etalk, Chelsea Green discussed what it meant to finally work alongside her husband on WWE television:

“I think right now in wrestling, we love to blur the lines, and we bring in current events. We bring in real-life situations. So, for Matt and I to end up on-screen together was, in my opinion, inevitable. You cannot avoid the fact that we are together.”

“We’re both in WWE, we’re very public people with our personal lives. Everyone has watched us build our house and adopt our animals and grow this life together. It was really beautiful for the fans to see that on-screen, on SmackDown. He came to my aid, it was just really fun.”

“I got to watch, in the ring, as a fan as well. Everyone was watching him come save me, but I also got to watch that, which was really fun.”

Green also noted that the two have been together for ten years and that their careers nearly intersected on multiple occasions before this segment.

Cardona officially returned to WWE on January 2, defeating Kit Wilson and going on to compete under his real name.
