Eric Young is no longer part of the TNA roster. His release was confirmed by the company in a statement issued Wednesday, July 1, just days after Slammiversary.

“TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Eric Young, effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The timing of the move stands out. Young was in action this past Sunday on Countdown to Slammiversary, where he was defeated by Ricky Sosa. The match ended the rivalry between the two, which began after Young tried to take Sosa out of action weeks earlier.

Before the event, TNA had promoted the match as a score-settling bout between the two, with Sosa trying to prove he belonged in the company and Young promising to make him pay for it.

The release also changes future plans. In April, Young had been announced among the names confirmed for Lockdown, which is set to return on August 23 in Chicago.

In the preview for this Thursday’s iMPACT!, Sosa is advertised to speak to TNA fans, now being presented as one of the fastest-rising stars in the company.

As of now, the reason for the release has not been revealed.
